Original marble boards rebacked expertly with recent ½ calf binding, spine with six compartments of raised gilt bands, text on black label on two, edges speckled red and endpapers renewed. , A few plates with skillful marginal repairs. Otherwise very good, all plates are clean and crisp. , Small folio (322 x 215 mm, 154 leaves (of 201), with 184 copper-engraved plates. Manuscript title. Lacks 47 leaves, text, and original title pages. Sold as a collection of plates.

Plate number 100 (second series) signed as etched by Balthasar Schwan (d. 1624), all others unsigned.
Georg Andreas Böckler was an architect in Germany in the 17th century (1644-1698), whose two well-known works are “Architectura Curiosa Nova” and “Theatrum Machinarum Novum”. In Nuremberg, he specialized in hydraulic architecture, and thus was greatly involved in the design and construction of water fountains. “Architectura” was a book on the theoretical as well as the practical side of hydraulic engineering and included 201 leaves of 232 plates detailing various fountain, grotto, and garden designs.
